2010 Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln's MKZ roots harken back to the original 1936 Zephyr, introduced in November of 1935. The original Zephyr was an extremely modern vehicle, styled with an eye toward aerodynamics, right down to the trademark Lincoln split-wing waterfall grille. But what made the Zephyr truly unique was the size: Compared to other luxury cars of the era, including the exclusive K-Series Lincoln, the Zephyr was smaller. It also had a smaller displacement, more efficient engine. The Zephyr effectively bridged the gap between top line Ford Deluxe models and full-size luxury cars.

When the 2006 Lincoln Zephyr re-emerged as a concept car at the 2004 New York Auto Show, people took notice. Here was a smaller, more efficient Lincoln. And it not only bridged the gap between top-of-the-line Fords and high-end Lincolns, it also took square aim at entry-level luxury sedans from Japan and Europe.

Based upon Ford's CD3 midsize car platform, the Zephyr has seen a continuous development and upgrade schedule, not the least of which was a name change form Zephyr to MKZ. Over the years, engine output increased with the addition of a 3.5-liter DOHC V6, a sophisticated six-speed automatic transmission was added and so was an optional intelligent all-wheel-drive system. While power increased with the new engine, fuel economy also improved (FWD 18 city/28 hwy, AWD 17/24). Equally important, the new engine was capable of burning inexpensive 87-octane fuel.

Fast forward to today: The 2010 Lincoln MKZ from Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury in St. Augustine, FL has received a considerable revamp in order to keep pace in one of the auto industry's most competitive segments. Significant changes took place on the exterior, effectively integrating styling elements from Lincoln's MKS flagship also available at Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury in St. Augustine, FL. The entire front end is new, showcasing Lincoln's split-wing grille coupled with slimmer headlights. The hood is sculpted and flows into the A-pillar. At the rear, the low lift-over height deck lid is new, giving way to wider, thinner LED tail lamps. 17x7.5-inch, 9-spoke machined finish aluminum wheels are standard (chrome plate is optional), and 18x7.5-inch, 10-spoke polished wheels are available as part of the Sport Appearance Package. There's more too: When it comes time to gas up, release the fuel door and you'll find the fuel filler is in fact "capless." It's a racing inspired system that we found actually helps prevent fuel from contacting your hands during a fill up. Simple but brilliant.

Open the door and you'll immediately discover Lincoln focused on quality. The cabin reflects an upscale look with genuine wood or aluminum trim (depending upon the package), an all-new instrument panel and imported Bridge of Weir leather trimmed seats. Slide into the heated and cooled driver's seat and you'll realize the instrument cluster is daytime lit. The large speedometer is central to the cluster with the tachometer on the left and the balance of the instruments to the right. It's a functional, driver's system. Optionally available is an ambient lighting package that can be customized to suit your 2 interior atmospheres. Settle in behind the leather wrapped steering wheel and you'll quickly note the real wood trim at the top of the steering wheel, across the instrument panel and across each door panel. The traditional style of contrasting seat piping on the leather trim proved to be a pleasant touch in the 2010 Lincoln MKZ from Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury in St. Augustine, FL.

The radio and climate control "stack" is located directly below the optional navigation system on the leading edge of the center console. The mix of push buttons and common sense rotary controls work well for hands of all sizes.

A big part of the forward push in the 2010 Lincoln MKZ from Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury in St. Augustine, FL is centered around technology. Exclusive technology for this vehicle segment includes the optional Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, available adaptive HID headlights, and standard SYNC. Looking closer at the optional technology, you'll find that when a sensor in the blind spot information system detects a vehicle entering your blind spot, an indicator light, positioned in the corner of each corresponding side view mirror will alert you. Cross Traffic Alert or "CTA" makes use of the sensors from the Blind Spot Information System to alert you of approaching traffic from either side when in reverse. This information is particularly useful when backing out of tight parking spots, or for when you find yourself with a large SUV or van parked on either side.

From a connectivity and entertainment perspective, the 2010 Lincoln MKZ from Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury in St. Augustine, FL simply bristles. The MKZ incorporates voice-activated, hands-free communication with Sync. The optional Navigation Package offers hands-free navigation, real-time traffic and weather data by way of SIRUIS Travel Link, as well as a 10GB hard drive (allowing owners to store up to 2,400 of their favorite music tracks). Also available is a premium THX II sound system with a 12 channel amp and 14 speakers. There's plenty more, including Bluetooth capability, digital music player capability and more. Suffice it to say this is one car sure to satisfy any enthusiastic techno-geek.

Even just a short test drive will reveal the award winning 3.5L Duratec V6 (263 horsepower, 249 lb/feet of torque) to be efficient and willing, particularly with the manual shift-capable 6-speed Selectshift Automatic transmission and the available all-wheel drive system.
